Taiwan – E-camp (IESSC)
This is the English camp that some of our students went to last year in Taiwan and we have a special relationship with the Professor that is running the program. Therefore, our church has been given a set number of spaces so all applications will need to be returned by the deadline below for pre-approval.
Dates: July 31 – August 15, 2009
Application Deadline: deadline already passed
Location: National Tsing-Hua University (NTHU), Hsinchu, Taiwan.
Cost: Covered by Scholarship (details below)
Pre-Req: All applicants must have been on at least one other Gracepoint Mission Trip.
Purpose: This camp is designed to provide Western Culture enrichment and professional training for Taiwanese university students at a critical point in their personal development. The hope is that by modeling their faith through excellence in character and service, Christian teachers and TAs can positively influence the students and emphasize the integration of values and vocation in everyday life.
Program: The IESSC has two parts, a Technical Writing and Presentation Camp for graduates and post-graduate NTHU students and a Western Culture and Leadership Camp (WC & LC) for undergrads leading to a community service proposal and presentation in English. We expect the 48 teachers and TAs to work with over 300 students in 2009.
Program Schedule: Three days of intensive training and preparation are followed by a two-week camp program. Classes run Mondays through Saturdays; Sundays are free for church or other activities.
Costs/Compensation: Airfare, room, and board will be provided through NTHU scholarships to 48 teachers and TAs. Some additional non-paid TA positions may also be available. Teachers will receive an additional stipend of 1000 USD.
Overview of Responsibilities:
Teachers: Technical Writing and Presentation instructors will be responsible for teaching one to two classes of 30 graduate students each. WC & LC teachers will work with a team of TAs to lead classes of 50 undergraduate students and will also serve as mentors for their TAs. All teachers can come from a variety of professional backgrounds but should be strong Christians and native English speakers. Some teaching materials from previous years will be available, but new ideas and creative approaches fare welcomed and encouraged.
Teaching Assistants: We are seeking mature, energetic undergraduate students to support a small group of 4-5 NTHU students during morning WC& LC sessions, organize activities relevant to their own talents and interests, and actively build relationships with students in and out of the classroom. TAs must be Christians and native English speakers.
Application Process:
** The application deadline has passed. If you have questions, please email to Andy Tung at Andy.Tung [at] gpmail [dot] org.

QUESTION: Since space is limited for some of the trips, if i am interested in 2 trips, should I apply to both?
ANSWER: Yes. You can definitely apply to multiple trips, but let Andy Tung know what your preference is so we can take that into consideration when reviewing applications.
